What exactly is P.E.I.?
It is the process of updating driving knowledge, regulations, modern transport awareness, and the development of new skills for all drivers circulating within the European Union.
According to Presidential Decree 74 for the adaptation of Greek legislation to Directive 2003/59/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council, regarding initial qualification and periodic training of drivers of certain road vehicles used for the transport of goods or passengers, professional drivers must obtain the P.E.I. to continue practicing their profession and must have their driving license stamped with code 95. |

The Professional Competence Certificate (P.E.I.):
This certifies that the specific driver has received the required initial qualification or periodic training, as defined by this decree, and is therefore allowed to drive specific category or subcategory road vehicles for passenger or goods transport, provided they also hold a valid driving license for the corresponding category or subcategory. |

P.E.I. is divided into passenger transport P.E.I. and goods transport P.E.I. |
Passenger transport P.E.I. refers to the subcategories and categories D1, D1E, D, D E. |
Goods transport P.E.I. refers to the subcategories and categories C1, C1E, C, C E. |
To prove that a driver holds a P.E.I., they must possess a valid Driver Qualification Card, which complies with this decree, or have stamped on their driving license next to one or more of the subcategories or categories with the old coding: G1, D1, G1E, D1E, G, D, G E, D E, which they hold, with the EU code number 95. |

Examination Procedure:
A. The theoretical exam lasts 4 hours and consists of two tests:
• multiple-choice questions, and
• case studies of specific situations
Β. The practical test is organized by the relevant Road Transport Department and consists of a driving test aimed at evaluating in-depth knowledge of rational driving according to safe driving rules. The minimum duration of this test is 90 minutes. |

The Professional Competence Certificate (P.E.I.) is mandatory for drivers of the following vehicle categories:
a) D1, D1E, D, DE, who obtained or obtain a driving license for at least one of these categories from 10 September 2008 onwards.
b) C1, C1E, C, CE, who obtained or obtain a driving license for at least one of these categories from 10 September 2009 onwards.

Drivers are not required to obtain an initial qualification P.E.I.:
a) Passenger transport: drivers who obtained any of the categories D1, D1E, D, DE before 10 September 2008, but are required to obtain passenger transport P.E.I. through periodic training.
b) Goods transport: drivers who obtained any of the categories C1, C1E, C, CE before 10 September 2009, but are required to obtain goods transport P.E.I. through periodic training.

| Exemptions |
Drivers of the following vehicle categories are exempt from obtaining initial and periodic P.E.I. training:
Vehicles whose maximum permitted speed does not exceed 45 km/h.
Vehicles belonging to the Armed Forces and Security Forces (Police, Fire Department, Coast Guard), as well as vehicles not belonging to these services but used by them under any arrangement.
Vehicles serving the needs of Civil Defense or the Civil Protection of Emergencies (C.P.E.A).
Vehicles undergoing road tests for technical improvement, repair, or maintenance of new or modified vehicles not yet in circulation.
Vehicles used in emergency situations or for rescue operations.
Vehicles used for driving lessons to obtain a driving license or P.E.I. (as defined in this decree).
Vehicles used for private purposes, not considered commercial transport of passengers or goods.
Vehicles transporting materials or equipment used in the exercise of the driver’s profession, provided driving these vehicles is not the driver’s main activity. |
